Your trivia lesson of the day

Comments by Don of Indy:

Your trivia lesson of the day. Did you know that thus far this year, almost 3 million new organizations have filed for 501(c)(3) tax status.

"Understand what a nonprofit is: an organization whose primary objective is to support some issue or matter of private interest or public concern (such as the arts, charities, education, politics, religion, research, or some other endeavor) for non-commercial purposes. There are different kinds of nonprofits, one of them being a 501(c)(3), which is exempt from income and (sometimes) property tax, and able to receive tax-deductible charitable contributions." (And, receive Government grants.)

Why bring this up, I belong to the 'Freedom Group of America/Indiana' and a few other patriotic groups. Just here in IN, thus far this year, an average of two "patriotic" groups have been formed per week since the Tax Day Protest march in April. Now I'm not claiming all the 3 million new groups are patriotic, but, it would be interesting to find out.

My group, we have declared ourselves to be a charitable (our work with Vets, etc.) and a political education organization.

Bottom line, we "tea baggers", as called by the OEM, are going to be a force to be reckoned with in only 11 months. The world will change with the election in 2010.
